Higher Education
After Class 12 · Go to college
Going to college after Class 12 means choosing an undergraduate degree — B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech, MBBS, LLB and many more — usually lasting 3 to 5 years. The degree shapes which jobs, entrance exams and postgraduate options open up later, although many careers stay reachable from more than one degree.

How you get in
Suits students who want a recognised degree before working, or whose target career requires one — medicine, law, engineering, architecture, teaching, and most government officer posts. Admission is through Class 12 marks, CUET-UG (central and many other universities), or course-specific tests such as NEET-UG, JEE Main, NATA, CLAT and state CETs.
At a glance
- It means 3–5 years of fees and living costs before a full-time salary; government colleges and scholarships lower the cost.
- A graduate degree is the minimum requirement for many government exams, including UPSC Civil Services, SSC CGL and bank PO/clerk exams.
- Outcomes depend heavily on the institution and on the skills built alongside the degree, not only on the degree name.
- Distance and open-university degrees let some students study while working.
