Computer Science
B.Sc major
A science degree in computing: programming, data structures, databases, operating systems, networks and discrete mathematics, often alongside Mathematics or another science subject. It is more theory- and maths-oriented than a BCA and shorter than a B.Tech CSE. It leads to software and data jobs, an MCA or M.Sc, or further study.
After Computer Science, you can
How you get in
Class 12 in the science stream, usually with Mathematics (many colleges require it for Computer Science). Central universities (Delhi University, BHU and others) admit through CUET-UG scores in the relevant subjects; many state universities and their colleges admit on Class 12 merit or a state test. You usually choose the major — or a combination of two or three subjects — at admission.
At a glance
- Software employers often hire B.Sc graduates, but some campus drives and job listings ask for B.E./B.Tech only.
- Common next steps: an MCA (NIMCET for NITs, state tests, CUET-PG), an M.Sc, or a job.
- Projects, internships and coding practice matter as much as the degree for tech hiring.
- Government routes are mostly general-graduate exams (SSC, banking, state PSCs).
