Mechatronics & Robotics
B.Tech branch
Mechatronics combines mechanical engineering, electronics, control systems and programming to build machines that sense and act — robots, CNC machines, automated production lines and smart products. Programmes may be named Mechatronics, Robotics & Automation, or Automation & Robotics. It leads to automation, robotics, embedded and maintenance roles in manufacturing and product companies.
After Mechatronics & Robotics, you can
How you get in
You choose the branch at counselling, after the entrance exam. Mechatronics and robotics programmes are offered at some centrally funded institutes (allotted through JoSAA on JEE Main or Advanced rank) and at many private and state colleges, filled through state CETs or university tests. Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is required.
At a glance
- The course spans several fields, so depth in any one depends on electives and projects.
- Many employers hire Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics graduates for the same automation roles.
- GATE has no mechatronics paper; graduates choose the ME, EE, EC or IN paper, subject to eligibility.
- Research robotics roles often expect an M.Tech or MS.
In numbers
'Mechatronics Engineering' row only; 'Mechanical & Mechatronics' and 'Automation & Robotics' are counted separately. Earlier years show a large jump that may reflect reporting changes, so no trend is shown. AISHE counts responding institutions only; coverage varies by year.
