Robotics Engineer
Also known as: Robotics Application Engineer · Robot Programmer · Automation Engineer (Robotics)
Designs, programs and maintains robots and automated machines for factories, warehouses and products.
What you’d do
A robotics engineer builds and programs robots — industrial arms on assembly lines, mobile robots in warehouses, or robots in research and products. Employers include factory-automation integrators, robot makers, manufacturers, warehouse-automation firms and start-ups. Work mixes programming, mechanical and electrical integration, and testing in the lab or at a customer site.
- Program and test robot motion and tasks
- Integrate sensors, drives and controllers
- Commission robot cells at customer sites
- Troubleshoot hardware and software faults
How you get in
Freshers often start as application or commissioning engineers at automation integrators, working on robot cells in factories. Projects with ROS or microcontrollers and robotics competitions help; research and autonomy roles often expect an M.Tech or MS.
