How you get in

Class 12, usually with Mathematics (usually required); some colleges also accept Computer Science or Statistics in place of it. Central universities admit through CUET-UG; many state and private universities admit on Class 12 merit or their own test. IIT Madras runs an online BS in Data Science and Applications with its own qualifier process.

A newer major, often at private and autonomous colleges, so syllabus depth varies — the course list says more than the name.
Data analyst and reporting roles are the usual first jobs; data scientist roles often expect experience or a master's.
Hiring weighs projects, internships and SQL / Python skills alongside the degree.
