How you get in

Class 12 in the science stream (Physics, Chemistry with Biology or Mathematics). Central universities admit through CUET-UG; many state universities and colleges admit on Class 12 merit or a state test.

At a glance

  • Environmental studies is a compulsory course for all undergraduates; this is a full major, which is different.
  • Many consultancy and EIA roles prefer an M.Sc.
  • For the Indian Forest Service, the degree must include one of UPSC's listed subjects, such as Botany, Chemistry or Zoology.
  • Industry EHS, pollution-monitoring labs and NGOs are common first employers.
