LL.B
Undergraduate law degree
A law degree, in two forms: a five-year integrated programme straight after Class 12 (BA LLB, BBA LLB, B.Com LLB and others), or a three-year LLB after any bachelor's degree. Both are regulated by the Bar Council of India and lead to practice, corporate legal work, the judiciary or further study.
How you get in
Five-year programmes: CLAT (most National Law Universities), AILET (NLU Delhi), state law CETs, and university tests. Three-year LLB: state law CETs or university merit after graduation.
At a glance
- To practise you enrol with a State Bar Council and pass the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).
- Litigation, corporate law and the judiciary are quite different paths with different routines.
- An LLM (one year, via CLAT PG and other tests) is the usual next degree.
