Plans and qualifies welding procedures for fabrication, pipelines, pressure vessels and structures.
Starting salary: not added yet.
What you’d do
A welding engineer decides how metal parts will be welded — the process, filler, settings and checks — and makes sure the welds meet the required codes. Heavy fabrication shops, pressure-vessel and boiler makers, pipeline and EPC contractors, shipyards and railway and defence suppliers hire them. A day mixes shop-floor or site checks, inspection records and procedure paperwork.
- Prepare and qualify welding procedures (WPS / PQR)
- Qualify and monitor welders
- Inspect welds and resolve defects
- Apply codes such as ASME and AWS
How you get in
Freshers join fabrication, EPC and inspection companies as graduate engineers or QA/QC trainees through campus or direct hiring. Inspection certifications such as AWS CWI or CSWIP become important as you move into inspector roles.
