Tests vehicles and parts on rigs, tracks and roads to check they meet design and safety targets.
What you’d do
A vehicle validation engineer checks that a vehicle or component works as designed — for durability, performance, emissions, noise or safety. Employers include vehicle makers, component suppliers, testing agencies and engineering services firms. A typical day involves preparing test plans, fitting sensors, running tests on rigs or tracks, and analysing data.
- Plan test procedures from requirements
- Run rig, track or road tests
- Log test data and analyse results
- Report failures to design teams
How you get in
Freshers join vehicle makers, suppliers or testing agencies as graduate engineer trainees, often after an internship. Student vehicle projects (formula-style, off-road or electric car competitions) commonly come up in interviews.
