Also known as: Siddha Doctor · BSMS Doctor · Siddha Medical Officer
Diagnoses and treats patients using Siddha medicine in hospitals, varmam centres or a registered clinic.
Starting salary: not added yet.
What you’d do
A Siddha physician diagnoses patients using the Siddha system, including pulse reading, and treats them with herbal and mineral medicines, diet and therapies such as varmam. Most work is in Tamil Nadu and nearby regions, in government Siddha wings of hospitals, private clinics, varmam centres or the physician's own registered practice. A typical day is outpatient consultations, therapy sessions and preparing or prescribing medicines.
- Examine patients and record their history
- Prescribe Siddha medicines and diet advice
- Plan therapies such as varmam and thokkanam
- Keep patient records and follow-up notes
How you get in
Admission to BSMS is through NEET-UG, with AACCC counselling for all-India quota seats and state counselling (mainly Tamil Nadu) for the rest. Classical Siddha texts are in Tamil, so Tamil is a practical requirement. After the internship, registration with the state board allows practice; government posts come through state health department and public service commission notices.
