Reservoir Engineer
Also known as: Reservoir Engineering Trainee
Studies oil and gas reservoirs to estimate reserves and plan how much can be produced, and how.
Starting salary: not added yet.
What you’d do
A reservoir engineer works out how much oil or gas a field holds and how to get it out — where to drill, how fast to produce, and when to use methods such as water injection. Upstream oil and gas companies and consultancies hire them. Most days are office-based: analysing production and pressure data, running simulation models and working with geologists and production engineers.
- Analyse well-test and production data
- Build and run reservoir simulation models
- Estimate reserves and production forecasts
- Recommend well and recovery plans
How you get in
A few freshers join upstream companies directly as reservoir trainees, through GATE-based PSU recruitment or campus hiring. Many enter after an M.Tech or MS, or move in from field production roles after a few years.
