What you’d do
A regulatory affairs associate prepares, compiles and tracks the documents a pharma company needs to get its medicines approved and keep them compliant after launch. - Respond to queries from regulators
- Maintain product licence records
How you get in
Freshers usually join regulatory teams as trainee or junior associates after a B.Pharm, M.Pharm or Pharm.D. A short regulatory affairs certificate can help but is not required, and some people start in quality assurance or documentation and move across later.

At a glance
- A common progression is associate, senior associate, then regulatory affairs manager.
- Export-focused companies need knowledge of rules in overseas markets such as the US, EU and emerging markets.
- The work is desk-based and deadline-driven, with little patient or field contact.
