Also known as: Agro-Processing Engineer · Cold Chain Engineer · Food Process Engineer (Agri)
Designs and runs systems to dry, store, grade and process crops so they last longer and lose less value.
What you’d do
A post-harvest engineer works on what happens to crops after harvest: cleaning, drying, grading, storage, cold chains and primary processing. Employers include agro-processing companies, cold-storage and warehousing firms, food processors and agri-equipment makers. Work is split between the plant or warehouse floor and planning equipment and layouts.
- Run drying, grading and storage equipment
- Plan cold-storage and warehouse layouts
- Monitor produce quality and losses
- Support agro-processing plant operations
How you get in
Graduates join agro-processing plants, cold-chain operators and equipment makers as graduate engineer trainees, via campus placement or direct application. Internships in a processing plant or cold store strengthen an application.
