What you’d do
A patient care coordinator is the main non-clinical contact for a patient in a hospital. They book consultations and procedures, explain cost estimates and paperwork, and keep the patient, the family, the doctor and the billing desk on the same page until discharge. Employers include private hospitals, specialty clinics, IVF and dental chains, and medical-tourism desks that look after patients from other cities or countries.
- Schedule appointments and procedures
- Explain processes, estimates and paperwork
- Coordinate between doctors, desks and families
- Follow up with patients after discharge
How you get in
Most freshers apply directly to hospitals and clinic chains for patient-relations or coordinator openings, often starting at the help desk. An internship in a hospital during the degree is a common way to get a first offer.
