What you’d do

An ERP functional consultant sets up and supports enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, the systems companies use for accounting, purchasing, inventory and payroll. Commerce graduates usually work on the finance and accounting modules. Employers include IT services firms, ERP implementation partners and companies with in-house ERP teams; a typical day involves understanding a business process, configuring the system to match it, testing, and helping users.

  • Map business processes to ERP modules
  • Configure and test finance module settings
  • Train users and resolve support tickets
  • Document requirements and changes

How you get in

Freshers often join as ERP support or associate consultants at IT services firms or implementation partners, or move across from an accounts role in a company that runs an ERP. Vendor certifications are often asked for but can be costly; some employers train freshers in-house.
