What you’d do
A customs documentation executive prepares the paperwork needed for goods to clear customs — shipping bills for exports, bills of entry for imports, and supporting invoices, packing lists and certificates. Employers include customs brokers, freight forwarders and the EXIM teams of manufacturers and traders. The day involves checking documents, classifying goods, filing online and following up on queries.
- Prepare shipping bills and bills of entry
- Check invoices, HS codes and duty
- File documents on the customs portal
- Follow up queries with customs and clients
How you get in
Freshers usually join customs brokers or freight forwarders near ports, airports or inland container depots as documentation trainees. Short EXIM documentation courses, and accuracy with numbers and paperwork, help in getting the first job.
