What you’d do
A clinical pharmacist works on hospital wards with doctors and nurses to make sure patients get the right medicines at the right doses. Hospitals, especially larger private and teaching hospitals, hire them. A typical day involves reviewing prescriptions, checking for drug interactions, counselling patients, and reporting side effects.
- Review prescriptions on ward rounds
- Check doses and drug interactions
- Answer drug information queries
- Report adverse drug reactions
How you get in
Complete a Pharm.D (entry after Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Maths), including the hospital internship year, and register with your State Pharmacy Council. Freshers usually apply to hospitals with clinical pharmacy departments; internships at those hospitals often help.
