What you’d do
A BIM modeller builds a detailed digital model of a building that the whole design team works from, and produces drawings and quantities from it. Architecture firms, construction companies and BIM service firms that work for overseas clients hire them. Most of the day is modelling, coordinating with structural and services teams, and fixing clashes.
- Build architectural models in BIM software
- Produce drawings and schedules from the model

- Update models as the design changes
How you get in
Freshers usually join as junior modellers in an architecture or BIM services firm, often after a short software course. A portfolio showing a modelled building and its drawings helps more than certificates alone.
