Job / Work

After Class 12 · Start earning

Starting work right after Class 12, instead of — or alongside — a degree. There are two broad routes: a salaried entry-level job in the private sector, or working for yourself through a trade, a family business or a small venture. It brings an earlier income and real work experience, while some higher-paying and government posts later ask for a degree or a formal skill certificate.

How you get in

Suits students who need or want to earn early, who have a family business or trade to join, or who prefer learning on the job. There is no entrance exam: private employers hire through interviews, walk-in drives, job fairs, staffing agencies and job portals, and self-employment needs a skill or idea, some capital and basic registrations.

At a glance

  • Earning early can matter a lot for family finances and builds work experience before peers.
  • Entry-level pay is often modest, and many roles are contractual or informal, without PF or ESI cover.
  • Distance or open-university degrees allow studying while working, which keeps later options open.
  • Short skill courses — ITI, apprenticeships, polytechnic diplomas — are covered under Vocational / Skilling and can change which jobs are open.
